Increasing the capacity to offer culturally sensitive care to Francophones

Health Service Providers are invited to attend new learning opportunities that will increase their capacity to offer culturally sensitive care to Francophones.

Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), in partnership with Health Nexus Santé and Reflet Salvéo, is pleased to offer you the following learning opportunities during the month of March 2015:

  1. Moving toward a bilingual organization

Webinars on Tuesday, March 3, 10-11:30 am & Wednesday, March 11, 10-11:30 am

Using the toolkit, Moving Toward a Bilingual Culture, this webinar will outline the seven components of a bilingual organizational culture, including how to recruit and retain bilingual staff and promote French language services. It will introduce a practical checklist for to assess an organization’s current bilingual status. Health service providers will learn how supporting a bilingual culture can build stronger relationships with your French-speaking community members. Participants will also be provided with a hard-copy version of the toolkit.

  1. Strengthening your Active Offer of Services to Francophones

There is growing recognition of the need for health service providers within TC LHIN to strengthen the practice of an ‘Active Offer’ of services in French. This workshop will feature a new tool on the practice of Active Offer and will explore how this practice can improve the way that health services are offered in French.

  • What is meant by an Active Offer of French Language Services
  • Examples of best practices
  • Tools to help your organization know where to begin and how to build your capacity
  • 3-hour workshop at Reflet Salvéo’s French Connection Forum,

Friday, March 27, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm - Register

This workshop will be delivered in English. Simultaneous translation will be available.

Registrants are encouraged to register and stay for the second half of the day (FREE). The French Connection Forums are intended for Anglophone and Francophone health and community services providers, as well as those who wish to learn and share their experiences and build on the collective experience to develop their capacity to provide services in French.

This webinar will be offered in English, with materials available in English and French.   Francophone participants who are interested in receiving additional content in French are encouraged to contact the webinar organizers for further training options.
