Staff bios

Barb Willet – Executive Director
Barb draws upon her extensive leadership experience to lead Health Nexus, where she manages a staff of 20 people located in Toronto and across the province.  During her more than 20 years with the organization, she has contributed to many successful inter-agency collaborative initiatives and strategic partnerships, and has led the effective planning and delivery of a range of programs and services.  Barb has a Master’s degree in Health Sciences with a specialty in Health Promotion.

Andrea Bodkin – HC Link Coordinator
Andrea has been with HC Link since 2009.  She has an extensive background in physical activity and health promotion and has worked in local recreation centres and public health units as well as provincial NGOs and agencies. Her areas of expertise include strategic planning, program development, healthy schools and meeting planning and facilitation.

Sonya Boersma – Health Promotion Consultant, BFI Implementation for Ontario
Sonya has extensive experience as a lactation consultant in numerous settings, particularly breastfeeding clinics and independently. As a registered nurse she has worked in public health for 12 years and has taught nursing students clinical in postpartum. She recently completed her Master’s of Science in Nursing and has presented at multiple conferences. Sonya drafted the BFI Implementation Toolkit and was one of the researchers for the BFI Evidence Informed Key Messages and Resources Manual. She is passionate about supporting best practice while working with families, front line staff and service providers.

Meghan Boston-McCracken – Bilingual Information Specialist
Meghan oversees the Best Start Resource Centre Maternal Newborn and Child Health Promotion Network and the Healthy Babies Healthy Children Network. She writes the bi-weekly bulletin, conducts research and organizes the Best Start Annual Conference. Meghan has a Master’s degree of Social Work.

Magali Bouhours – Bilingual Resource Distribution Coordinator
Magali joined the Best Start Resource Centre in 2011 where she coordinates the processing and distribution of Best Start resources. Originally from Chartres, France, she has lived in Toronto since 2005. Magali has a strong background in science and worked in scientific and clinical research for many years.

Marie Brisson – Bilingual Health Promotion Consultant
Marie has extensive experience in training development and delivery, and facilitation to respond to the needs of individuals, families or communities. She worked in in numerous public health programs as well as in the private sector. Marie has a degree in Nursing and diplomas in adult education and workplace health and safety.

Sam Carboni – Support Specialist
Sam is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operations of IT and telecommunications, desktop support and database administration at Health Nexus. He brings with him over 12 years of diverse experience in the field of information technology.

Louise Choquette – Bilingual Health Promotion Consultant
Louise has guided a range of Best Start outreach and social marketing initiatives including newcomer reproductive and child health, physical activity, prenatal education and tobacco control. She has also led projects to engage francophones across Ontario.

Hiltrud Dawson – Health Promotion Consultant, Breastfeeding Project Lead
Hiltrud has extensive experience in the maternal newborn field as a nurse, midwife, and lactation consultant. Before joining the Best Start team, she led a multidisciplinary team at Hamilton’s St. Joseph’s Healthcare that implemented the Baby-Friendly Initiative and became Ontario's first Baby-Friendly Hospital. Hiltrud has led many of Best Start’s healthy child development initiatives, including the On Track Guide.

Patrick Delorme – Bilingual Health Promotion Consultant
Patrick Delorme has worked for over 15 years at an international level in a broad range of technical areas such as community health, health promotion, reproductive health, maternal and child health, healthcare planning and management. He has also supported capacity-building for community based organisations and professional associations. In Canada, his focus is on health services planning in French and various facets involved in the integration of francophones in a minority context. Patrick holds two Masters Degrees one in Public Health and another in Community Development.

Amanda Dupupet – Executive Assistant
Amanda Dupupet is an administrative assistant whose primary role is to support the Executive Director. She speaks English and French and holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy.  Amanda brings to her role 10 years of experience in administration and customer service; as well as a strong passion for health promotion and maternal health.

Monika Goodluck – Bilingual health promotion consultant
Monika is passionate about building the capacity of individuals, communities, and organizations to meet their health promotion goals. She has front-line and management experience with Community Health Centres, including leading advocacy initiatives, program planning, social media implementation, inter-professional relations, and community engagement. Additionally, she spent several years specializing in HIV/AIDS-related knowledge translation activities that focused on racialized communities. Monika values participatory and adult learning approaches, and has a personally and professionally nuanced understanding of marginalization, intersectionality, and equity issues. She holds a graduate degree (MPH) focused on Health Promotion and Community Development.

Robyn Kalda – Health Promotion Specialist - Technology Specialization
Robyn is a specialist in the use of technology to store, retrieve, and share health promotion information. She leads projects on network mapping, environmental scanning and is the coordinator of the OHPE Bulletin. Robyn has a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies.

Kousar Khan – Webmaster
Kousar is responsible for the design, development and administration of the Health Nexus website and the organization’s project and campaign microsites in English and French. She brings a wide range of knowledge and web development skills.

Gillian Kranias – Bilingual Health Promotion Consultant
Gillian is a consultant with the HC Link program. She shares creative and practical approaches to help groups develop better plans, stronger partnerships and relevant evaluations, in order to enhance the inclusion, impacts and momentum of their collaborative efforts. Gillian has worked in neighbourhoods with a community health centre, province-wide with the Ontario Self-Help Network, and in diverse peer education and healthy community projects. Gillian holds a Master’s degree that focused on Community-based Organizing for Environmental and Social Change.

Yolande Lawson – Health Promotion Consultant, BFI Implementation for Ontario
Yolande, who is a Métis woman, is a Registered Nurse and Lactation Consultant has worked many years in maternal-child health and public health in the north. Yolande is committed to providing support and resources to women, children and families as well as to service providers. Yolande has an Honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, an Honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and a Master’s of Public Health Degree (Nursing Specialization).

Camille Maamari – Senior Financial Officer-Analyst
Camille leads all aspects of the organization’s financial management, including budget and audit preparation, accounts receivable, and reporting to funders. He holds the designation of Chartered Certified Accountant from England and Certified General Accountant of Ontario (CGA).

Wendy McAllister – Manager
Wendy manages the diverse, bilingual services of the Best Start Resource Centre. She has worked extensively on teen pregnancy, advanced maternal age, reproductive health risks in the workplace, health before pregnancy and the effects of tobacco smoke and alcohol during pregnancy. Wendy has presented at many conferences on preconception, prenatal health and healthy childhood development topics in Canada and the United States.

Cindy McCully – Finance & HR Officer
Cindy coordinates infrastructure and operations at Health Nexus and provides leadership in human resources and finance. As team lead for accounting, she contributes her knowledge and experience of some 20 years’ experience with the organization.

Maureen McDonald – Manager
Maureen manages the comprehensive, bilingual core health promotion services through Health Nexus and HC Link. With 25 years’ experience designing and leading complex child and family health and social support service systems, she promotes healthy communities through the cultivation and development of multi-sectorial partnership initiatives and projects. Maureen’s work, both within Toronto and across the province, reflects the need to develop innovative and responsive solutions to address the upstream health needs of diverse populations in a wide variety of community settings.

Kelley Tsumura-Luk – Accounting Clerk
Kelley supports the accounting department at Health Nexus. She has over 20 years of experience in the accounting field and is currently completing her designation as a Certified General Accountant (CGA).
